The STACK Variations collection of functional-art tables is inspired by my fascination with visual perception and the ways in which we embody the physical world. Through the repetitive stacking of simple elements, I have created objects that give rise to complex compositions of solids and voids. As one moves about the tables, the shapes and patterns are seemingly transformed, emphasizing an awareness of seeing.
The STACK Variations Collection consists of nine distinct geometric shapes as viewed in plan. All of the tables are assembled using eighteen rectilinear parts, which are stacked six high, in an alternating pattern. Although being related conceptually, each table takes on unique compositional and spacial qualities, varying the ways in which light, color, and reflection transform the viewing experience.
The tables are fabricated from aircraft grade 6061 Aluminum. The parts are waterjet cut, and then brushed and anodized to a pristine reflective finish. The pieces are pinned and glued together, so that all connections are fixed and concealed. The tabletop is low-iron Starphire glass, set on inset felt pads. Small concealed nylon pins at the bottom allow for leveling adjustments. The Collection will be available in limited editions.
